Notice on Airfare Loss Compensation of Relevant Scholars for Purchased Air Tickets

June 16th, 2008

The China Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (CUAES) has decided, upon thorough considerations, to make due compensations for the financial losses of some scholars who had planned to attend the 16th International Congress of IUAES and had purchased relevant air tickets therefor. The detailed requirements for compensation claims are as follows:

  1. The target group of compensation should be scholars invited by CUAES, who has purchased international air tickets to Kunming, China before May 13, 2008, for attending the Congress.
  2. For non-returnable paper-based air tickets, compensation claims should be made upon submission of the unused original air tickets and the Payment Invoices/receipts issued by relevant airlines/agencies; for non-returnable electronic air tickets, compensation claims should be made upon submission of the original Itinerary/Receipt of E-Ticket for Air Transportation and the Payment Invoices issued by relevant airlines/agencies; for returnable air tickets where returning charges are required, compensation claims for loss of returning charges should be made upon submission of the relevant paperwork/receipts on fee charging issued by the related airlines/agencies.
  3. The amount of money to be compensated will be as per the amount shown on the relevant tickets/receipts/invoices/paperwork submitted for claims, and the currencies for compensation will be limited to US Dollars for international scholars and RMB for domestic scholars.
  4. For those scholars who meet the requirements for compensation claims and are willing to be compensated, please submit the required documents to CUAES before July 20 , 2008(as of the date shown on mailing stamps) at the following address:

China Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences
    #252 Taipingqiao Dajie, Xicheng District,
    Beijing, 100800,
    P. R. China.

Compensations will be processed and be wire-transferred or remitted via banking services to successful claimers before August 30, 2008. It is suggested that the following information be provided clearly for successful transfer or remittance of the compensations: name of claimers, nationality, opening bank, bank account, as well as email account(s) for contacts.
  5. Upon receiving the documents for compensation claims, an email message will be sent to due claimers at the email account(s) given to confirm the case, where if necessary, certain checking work may be undertaken. Once a compensation is transferred or remitted, an email notice will be provided for confirmation. It is suggested that the email account(s) given be regularly checked by the compensation claimers for smooth processing.
  6. As the procedures for international transfer or remittance of money are quite complex, it may take a long time for the compensated money to be available for the claimers, where your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated.

We are sorry for the inconveniences this may bring about to you.
